Oh Silas

Sometimes I forget how chatty Silas really is, and how articulate he is until I am around other kids his age (and even some who are older).  Silas talks a lot.  I know he's learned this from all of us.  We are all pretty chatty, so it was bound to happen.

It seems like it has just been about a week since his prayers have evolved from "Heavenly Father, we thank Thee, in...the...name...of...Jesus Christ, amen," to novels. For example, the other day, he was saying a prayer over breakfast, and he said "we're thankful for the curtains, and our pictures, and our cups with milk, and our toast, and bless that it will give our bodies strength..."  That might not seem too strange, but Asher pointed out, quite emphatically, that "Mommy!  Silas blessed the toast and we're not even eating toast today!"  Or, last night, when he offered the prayer at bedtime, and said, among many other random things, that he was thankful for my earrings.  I am grateful that he is grateful for so many things.

Silas also likes to keep me informed.  Yesterday we had a park day with our playgroup, and as we were leaving the park, Silas said "Hey, there's a man going potty."  Oh great!  I must mention that several years ago, this park was dubbed the "Homeless Hangout" by one of our friends, and we rarely go there.  It has since been cleaned up.  So I looked around in the direction where he was pointing and didn't see anyone doing that.  I saw a man sitting on a bench in the distance, but no one was doing anything questionable.  I asked Silas, "where?"
"Over there mommy!"
"I don't see anyone going potty Silas."
"There's another one, and another one, and another one..."
"What are you looking at?"
"Those guys right there, with the blue."

So, it turns out that handicapped parking signs look more like people going potty to my three-year-old.

I love it! Ivy is chatty, too. Maybe it's a 2nd child thing? We went for about two weeks hearing "peas bess dat we can paint nails" every time she prayed.

I love it! I never would have made that connection but now that he's said that I'll see it every time I see those signs!
