I really love traditions, especially easy ones that don't require a lot of effort and money, but are still fun. Somehow, this tradition started two years ago, I suppose because Asher wasn't really old enough to carve pumpkins yet. So we painted mini pumpkins. Now, at the beginning of October, I always buy a few mini pumpkins (they are about 50 cents each), squirt some paints, and let the kids have fun.
I love how focused they are.
The pumpkins usually end up like they were dipped in mud, but the boys love it, and I love watching them enjoy art and mixing colors.
These pictures below were from the day we visited my grandma on her birthday. It was raining a lot (which is weird now, because it feels like summer is here), and what do kids like to do in the rain? Splash in the puddles, of course!
FYI, if your kids like to play in the rain as much as my kids do, this is as useful tip for wet shoes. Stuff the shoes full of wadded-up newspaper and set them close to a heater (be careful not to let the paper catch fire...I will not be held responsible for that). The newspaper wicks away the moisture. It's a pretty helpful tip and has saved some shoes that would have otherwise become moldy.

That is such an awesome tradition! Mind if I steal it? My boys would love it too! And I love using the old egg carton for putting paints in. Brilliant! I'm stealing that too. :D
